At our office, we have been using RACKIT furniture to create desks, work tables, and computer stands for several years. Now we'd like to share our experience and suggestions with you. RACKIT System Tables, Desks,
and Counters. You can create a variety of practical, functional, good looking tables, counters, and stands for all sorts of uses -- desk, computer work station, office equipment stand, even a work/dining table. And you'll appreciate the useful, versatile storage space provided by the shelves and drawers of the RACKIT units themselves. Decide your ideal table height, then choose a combination of RACKIT units to approximate your goal, allowing for the thickness of the tabletop. Start with a Base to bring the next unit off the floor and provide a toe-kick. Or, for single-stack desk/table supports, start with a Dolly to provide mobility. For the top of your stack, choose a drawer unit, a Component Rack, a Cabinet, or an inverted Base. If you plan to use a clear glass table top, consider the visual effect of this top unit. A Component Rack works well with a fax or printer, or even a small sculpture. A Cabinet or a drawer unit leaves just enough clearance for a poster, photograph, textile, or other flat art; adding a Base provides an inch and a half to display your favorite knick-knacks (perhaps on black felt or velvet). Create a Table, Desk, or Counter
to Suit Your Needs. Material Choices: Glass tabletops are available from your local glass store in a number of standard sizes -- round, square, or rectangular -- or can be custom made to your specifications. They come in several thicknesses; we recommend 3/8" or 1/2" for most sizes. The cost is reasonable -- as low as $12 per square foot for standard sizes, $25 and up for custom. Marble or granite -- real or man-made look-alikes -- also make great tabletops. These materials generally cost more than wood or glass. Check with your local supplier for availability.
